Ever since I was young I have always dreamed to be very successful and rich when I grow up, but as years went by I came to a realization that being very successful and rich is not an easy dream to reach. I have been coming up with lots of ideas of what I can do to earn money but alas, my attempts were either unsuccessful or just plainly stupid. As I reached my proverbial(at least to the people I know) Senior year in high school, I began to pressure myself of what course to take which is gonna guarantee me a high paying job. I have soliloquized my fake interviews, filled up my fake bio data entries and even came to a point of considering a part time job just so I knew what my best qualities were in able to find my desired course and work and be rich! I ended up with DEVCOM. I think I was always destined for this course anyway so I enrolled with my heart not really set for my next academic journey.
I don't have the slightest idea of what my future really is with DevCom, except maybe editing ID Pictures for Fujifilm. What worries me now is the worldwide problem which is unemployment. That word may not scare the hell out of my peers for now but it will when we graduate. Oh, how long that journey would be!
The current rate of unemployed people in our country alone is 7.7 %, not to mention the 18.2% underemployment rate! We, the young people should tread carefully because the real world is mean and competitive. An F mark won't suffice. As I mentioned in my recent post "Why Vote?" we have to choose the right leader for our country and maybe he can abolish the unemployed to employed! Okay, that's dreaming out loud but at least decrease the percentage of jobless people since it's even more difficult to find work in this global recession. Have you read the bankrupt companies on the papers? They were the big companies like Motorola, Burberry, Starbucks, Toyota, Christian Lacroix and many more. The loss of jobs is worrying. The best example would be the recently celebrated Xavier Days. The upper class men said that it really didn't measure up to the past Xavier Days.
We must join forces in kindred spirits to help our country swim the deep debt it has put itself through. Education is key. Without knowledge there is no power. Without US there is no power. We are the engine of our wheel(the country) that is constantly deflating in to a useless tire. Kidding! Maybe not really useless but maybe measuring up to Africa's economical standards? No?
I watched a show on ABS-CBN about the debate of the candidates for presidency and one of those candidates pondered on why the Filipinos are going out of our country when we need them here. I thought that his idea was preposterous! What? Those OFW's should come back here and feed the hungry stomachs of their families: wind? I disagree with what he said not only because my parents are OFWs but because I seriously feel that there is no future in my own country for me to earn a high salary. Don't get me wrong, I love our country. It's just that I love myself too and I want to work for a job that I know I'm going nowhere. I'm sure my remittances will be of help for our economy! Who knows, maybe in the future I won't have to go abroad anymore because our financial development has actually developed.
My point exactly is--are we gonna live comfortable lives here in the Philippines when some people can't even get decent jobs or just a job for that matter? To quote Ma'am Trell Borja, my DC1 professor "The rich will remain rich and the poor will remain poor". Those honest words really hurt me! I don't wanna be poor for my whole life! Education doesn't really guarantee a job but at least.
Do you agree?

it, really, is true!
ReplyDeleteour country's high population growth rate is a major cause of widespread poverty, though, with lack of access to land, insufficient job creation in industry and a history of inappropriate economic policies contributed to high rate of unemployment and underemployment.
it's true joule..because of the stereotype of filipinos that if you will go to other countries to find a great job..in fact, living away from you're homeland is so very difficult. they view our country as useless due to some reasons which i couldn't explain why.
